| INFO IN ENGLISH | Centre for Creative Development “Danilo Dolci” was established based on the experience of social and educational work carried out by Danilo Dolci and his collaborators, which started in Eastern Sicily back in 1952. The Centre stemmed from the need of offering the local communities a reality committed to practically solve the problems arisen during regular meetings held with people, and in 1958 it was renamed as Centre of Studies and Initiatives for Full Employment, with the purpose of promoting economic and social development of the local territory. By means of non-violent struggles, fasting and marches for peace, regular denunciations of the mafia-nepotistic system and other revolutionary initiatives such as the so-called “reverse strike”, Radio Libera and the maieutic workshops, which involved thousands of people, a creative space was developed, fostering awareness and bottom-up planning, paving the way for a real change. The tangible results of the struggles promoted in those years are now visible in concrete works – the dam on the Jato river, the farming cooperatives, the Training Centre in the village of Trappeto, and the Experimental Educational Centre of Mirto in Partinico – as well as in the awareness and memory of the many people who participated in this experience. Additionally, the centre also received acknowledgement at international level and started a cooperation with a number of artists, scientists and educators of the likes of Aldo Capitini, Carlo Rubbia, Erich Fromm, Ernesto Treccani, Ervin Laszlo, Johan Galtung, Lamberto Borghi, Mario Luzi, Noam Chomsky. In 1985 the Centre of Studies and initiatives is restructured in Centre for Creative Development, focusing more on non-violent education practices and contributing to the development of a methodology, the reciprocal maieutic, able to ease creative development at school and in the local territory. After the death of Danilo Dolci, in 1998, his name is given to the centre as a celebration of his strong inspirational impulse. At present, the Centre for Creative Development “Danilo Dolci” is a non-profit association involving young people and adults, which mainly acts through projects in the educational field carried out in cooperation with schools, universities, institutions, associations and social groups both at local and international level. |
| INFO IN ITALIAN | Il Centro per lo Sviluppo Creativo “Danilo Dolci” nasce dall’esperienza di lavoro sociale ed educativo di Danilo Dolci e dei suoi collaboratori, avviata nella Sicilia occidentale sin dal 1952. Creato a partire dall’esigenza di offrire alle comunità locali una struttura impegnata nella risoluzione pratica dei problemi emersi negli incontri continui con la gente, attraverso l’autoanalisi popolare, si costituisce nel 1958 come Centro Studi e Iniziative per la Piena Occupazione, con l’intento ultimo di promuovere lo sviluppo economico e sociale del territorio. Attraverso lotte nonviolente, digiuni e marce per la pace, costanti denunce del sistema mafioso-clientelare e altre iniziative rivoluzionarie come il cosiddetto “sciopero alla rovescia”, la Radio Libera e i Laboratori maieutici, che hanno coinvolto migliaia di persone, si è sviluppato uno spazio creativo di presa di coscienza e pianificazione dal basso, realizzando così le condizioni per un reale cambiamento. I risultati tangibili delle lotte promosse in quegli anni sono oggi visibili tanto in opere concrete – la diga sul fiume Jato, le cooperative agricole, il Centro di Formazione al Borgo di Trappeto e quello Educativo Sperimentale di Mirto a Partinico – quanto nella coscienza e nella memoria dei tanti che le hanno vissute. Numerosi sono anche i riconoscimenti sul piano internazionale e le collaborazioni con artisti, scienziati ed educatori del calibro di Aldo Capitini, Carlo Rubbia, Erich Fromm, Ernesto Treccani, Ervin Laszlo, Johan Galtung, Lamberto Borghi, Mario Luzi, Noam Chomsky. Nel 1985 il Centro Studi e Iniziative si ristruttura in Centro per lo Sviluppo Creativo, approfondendo le pratiche di educazione nonviolenta e contribuendo all’elaborazione di una metodologia, la maieutica reciproca, che possa favorire lo sviluppo creativo nelle scuole e sul territorio. Dopo la morte di Danilo Dolci, nel 1998 la struttura viene a lui intitolata per ricordarne il forte impulso ispiratore. Attualmente, il Centro per lo Sviluppo Creativo “Danilo Dolci” è un’associazione no profit che coinvolge giovani e adulti, operando principalmente attraverso progetti in ambito educativo in collaborazione con scuole, università, istituzioni, associazioni e gruppi sociali a livello sia locale che internazionale. |
